Job summary

The City of Kent is seeking a Corrections Officer to manage custodial and security duties within the Kent City Corrections Facility. You will supervise inmates, coordinate intake/release, manage meals and daily operations, and maintain records, all while safeguarding civil rights and safety.

This role requires handling of security procedures, restraint where necessary, and collaboration with court and medical staff. A high school diploma or GED is required, with relevant experience preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum six months experience dealing with incarcerated individuals or equivalent.
• Must meet Civil Service Rules and Regulations.
• Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license or ability to obtain one.
• Must pass a polygraph examination.
• Successful completion of WSCJTC basic Corrections Officer Training Academy within six months of hire.
• Basic first aid and CPR certificates within first year of employment.

Responsibilities

• Receive inmates and others into the Corrections facility and release as required.
• Physically search and control inmates as necessary.
• Receive and release inmates per procedures.
• Take fingerprints and photographs of inmates.
• Arrange for medical treatment of inmates.
• Supervise daily operations and cleaning of the facility.
• Supervise meal service.
• Maintain records of daily activities.
• Escort inmates to court and appointments.
• Handle incoming calls for the facility and screen callers.
• Communicate with the court during sessions.
• Apply restraints as needed.
• Write incident reports with proper grammar and punctuation.
• Operate computers and terminals.
• Perform related duties as assigned.
