Job summary

Certerra-Southern Engineering in Greensboro, NC is seeking an experienced Construction Materials Testing (CMT) Technician to perform on-site testing of concrete, asphalt, soils and related materials in alignment with project specifications. You will monitor placement techniques, collect samples, perform slump tests, compaction tests, density and bearing capacity assessments, and assist with core drilling as required.

Valid driver’s license and active certifications are preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Valid driver’s license and insurability required.
• Active CMT certifications (ACI, NICET, ICC) preferred.

JOB OVERVIEW:

Certerra-Southern Engineering is hiring an experienced CMT (Construction Materials Testing) Technician in Greensboro, NC to perform testing of various construction materials on active construction sites to verify compliance with project documents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Concrete/Grout/Mortar inspection and testing

• Monitoring for proper placement techniques
• Testing for slump, air content, unit weight, temperature
• Molding of compressive strength specimens
• Core drilling

• Asphalt
  • Establishing test locations
  • Checking load temperature
  • Verifying property laydown and rolling practices
  • Core drilling for density/thickness specimen
• Soil/Aggregate testing
  • Testing density/compaction
  • Observing proof rolling
  • Verifying proper moisture content
  • Checking bearing capacity for foundation support
  • Excavation quantification

Preferred Certifications/Licenses: (any of the below)

• American Concrete Institute (ACI) Field Technician Level I Certification
• National Institute for Certification of Engineering Technologies (NICET) CMT Level I or higher (soils or concrete)
• International Code Council (ICC) Soils Certification
• NCDOT Certifications (e.g., QMS Roadway Technician conventional density, ABC/borrow pit sampling)
• Exhibit excellent organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently and/or within Team environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required

• High school diploma or General Education Development (GED) diploma.
• Must hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be deemed insurable by the firm insurance carrier
