Position Summary

The Experienced Commercial HVAC Hydronics System Installer is an advanced craft professional responsible for the independent execution of complex refrigeration and hydronic piping installations across commercial, industrial, and institutional construction projects. This role operates with a high degree of autonomy, leads by example in quality and safety, and serves as a technical resource for less experienced installers on the crew. The Senior Piping Installer is expected to consistently produce inspection-ready work, contribute to field problem-solving, and uphold the Meriton standard of extraordinary service on every project.

This position is distinguished from the Piping Installer by a deeper technical repertoire, greater independence in field execution, the ability to interpret and resolve complex field conditions without direct supervision, and an expectation of informal leadership on the job site. Senior Piping Installers are frequently assigned to the most technically demanding scopes within a project and are a critical resource for schedule performance and first-time quality.

Meriton Alignment

This role directly advances two of Meriton's four Guiding Pillars: Deliver Extraordinary Service and Build a World-Class Team. The Senior Piping Installer demonstrates mastery of craft while lifting the capability of the team around them. In doing so, this individual embodies the 'We Always' behaviors that define Meriton culture: Win Together, Own Our Work, Champion Safety, Invest in the Future, and Move with Purpose. Senior craft professionals are the backbone of MOAC's field execution capability and represent the Meriton brand on every job site.

Core Responsibilities
  • Advanced Refrigeration and Hydronic Piping Installation
  • Independently execute complex piping installations including refrigerant, chilled water, hot water, condenser water, steam, and condensate systems across a wide range of project types and facility classifications
  • Perform all pipe layout and routing from engineered drawings, coordination drawings, and BIM/VDC model output with minimal direction
  • Execute all pipe joining methods at journeyman proficiency: soldering, brazing, welding (socket weld, butt weld, TIG/MIG), threaded, flanged, grooved mechanical (Victaulic or equivalent), and press-fit connections
  • Independently size, select, and install pipe supports, hangers, seismic restraints, vibration isolation, and expansion compensation assemblies per code and design requirements
  • Install and set valves, strainers, heat exchangers, coils, expansion tanks, and other hydronic specialties with full understanding of system function and operational intent
  • Perform above-ceiling, mechanical room, rooftop, and high-bay piping installations in coordination with other trades and in compliance with coordination drawings
  • Insulate piping systems including vapor barrier application on chilled water and refrigerant systems
  • Refrigerant Systems and EPA Compliance
  • Install, pressure test, leak test, dehydrate, and charge refrigerant systems per manufacturer requirements, ASHRAE 15, and applicable mechanical codes
  • Execute refrigerant line sizing, oil trapping, pitch, and line set configuration for split, VRF/VRV, chiller, and process refrigeration systems
  • Perform refrigerant recovery, reclaim, and recharge operations in full compliance with EPA 608 requirements
  • Assist with system startup and commissioning activities; document startup results and report anomalies to the foreman or project manager
  • Maintain EPA 608 Universal Certification (required) and demonstrate working knowledge of current F-Gas and refrigerant transition requirements
  • Field Leadership and Crew Support
  • Serve as an informal technical resource and on-site mentor for Piping Installers and apprentices assigned to the same project or work area
  • Assist the Lead Installer or Foreman in sequencing daily work, coordinating material staging, and maintaining crew productivity
  • Identify and communicate field conflicts, design discrepancies, or constructability issues proactively before they result in rework
  • Model correct installation techniques, safety behavior, and professional conduct at all times
  • Support onboarding of new crew members by demonstrating MOAC and Meriton installation standards in the field
  • Commercial Ductwork and Mechanical Equipment Support
  • Install commercial ductwork systems including rectangular, round, and oval duct, flexible duct, duct accessories, dampers, and diffusers as required by project scope
  • Install roof curbs, curb adapters, and equipment support structures; assist with equipment rigging, setting, and alignment

  • Support equipment startup and operational verification activities as directed
  • Quality, Code Compliance, and Documentation
  • Execute all installations in compliance with applicable mechanical codes (IMC, ASHRAE, SMACNA), project specifications, and Meriton installation best practices
  • Produce work that consistently passes inspection on first presentation; identify and correct deficiencies before inspection or closeout milestones
  • Maintain accurate daily field records including work performed, materials consumed, and labor hours as required by project management
  • Participate in pre-installation meetings, coordination walks, and quality control inspections as directed by the foreman or project manager
  • Report non-conformances, near-misses, or field conditions that affect quality or safety immediately to site leadership
  • Safety Leadership
  • Demonstrate consistent compliance with all OSHA, company, and site-specific safety requirements including fall protection, hot work permits, confined space entry, and lockout/tagout protocols
  • Proactively identify and correct unsafe conditions or behaviors; contribute to a jobsite safety culture consistent with Meriton's 'Champion Safety' behavior
