Job summary

Express Employment Professionals in Springfield, IL is seeking a skilled CNC Machinist/Operator to program, set up, and operate multi-axis machining centers producing high-tolerance parts from complex blueprints.

You will read GD&T, select tools, perform first-run inspections, and collaborate with engineering and quality teams to drive continuous improvements. Applicants should have at least 6 months of CNC experience and knowledge of G-code/M-code.

Qualifications

We are seeking a skilled, detail-oriented CNC Machinist / Operator to bring precision and expertise to our production team. If you thrive on programming, setup, and operating multi-axis machining centers to produce high-tolerance parts from complex engineering blueprints, this is the opportunity for you!

What You'll Do

Program & Setup: Program and set up CNC mills and lathes from scratch or by modifying existing programs, calculating tool registers and offsets.

Blueprint Interpretation: Read, interpret, and work from complex engineering blueprints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).

Precision Inspection: Select and install cutting tools, load raw materials, and perform first-run part inspections using advanced measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, gauges).

Operations & Maintenance: Monitor live production runs, troubleshoot deviations, perform preventative machine maintenance, and maintain accurate production logs.

Team Collaboration: Partner with engineering and quality control teams to drive continuous process improvements and part validation.

What We're Looking For

Experience: Minimum of 6 months of hands-on experience as a CNC Operator or Machinist in a production setting.

Programming Skills: knowledge of G-code and M-code programming (proficiency with CAD/CAM software is a strong plus).

Technical Mastery: Demonstrated ability to perform complex setups, including multi-fixture and tombstone setups.

Mechanical Aptitude: Strong understanding of material properties, cutting speeds, and feed rates.

Education: High school diploma or GED; a vocational certificate or associate degree in machining or a related technical field is preferred.
