Job summary

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Nurse for the Stem Cell Transplantation & Cellular Therapy unit in Houston. The role requires a BSN, an active RN license, and at least 12 months of RN experience in medical/surgical or acute care settings.

Shifts are 7am–7pm or 7pm–7am with rotating weekends/holidays. Compensation includes a salary range with a minimum of $31.73/hour, salary differential, comprehensive benefits, and generous PTO.

Qualifications

  • ACLS and PALS certifications are required; OCN or specialization certification preferred.

Job description

The Clinical Nurse on the Stem Cell Transplantation & Cellular Therapy unit at MD Anderson Cancer Center manages patient outcomes by providing, coordinating and supporting clinical aspects of direct patient care across the continuum of care. They impact quality of patient care, patient outcomes and use of resources in a designated area in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.

Ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, an RN license and at least twelve months of recent RN experience in medical/surgical or an acute care setting.

Shift will be 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am, with rotating weekends and holidays required. Weekends are considered Friday and Saturday.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:

Minimum $31.73 - Midpoint $46.15 - Maximum $61.54

The Inpatient Stem Cell Transplant & Cellular Therapy unit is a 48 bed unit and is one of our designated immunotherapy floors, administering research protocols involving immunotherapy and CARTOX therapy to patients, including Phase 1 clinical trials. As such, our staff receive additional training to develop the skills needed to provide exceptional care to patients receiving this progressive therapy.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Accountable for the management and provision of patient care in assigned area. Assesses patient's needs for nursing care and multidisciplinary team. Collaborates with physicians, other services, patient and patient's family to plan care and evaluate outcomes. Improves practice by integrating results and theories of research studies. Participates in data collection for current studies. Demonstrates clinical competency and compassion in providing care, using technology, administering medications, performing procedures and managing emergencies. Documents care according to established standards. Accesses, inputs and retrieves information from computer systems. Assures continuity of care through appropriate discharge planning, patient education and coordination of services. Acts as a patient and family advocate in order to uphold patient rights. Trains, coaches and assists team members to ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources.

EDUCATION
  • Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
  • Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

All clinical nurses with less than one year of registered nurse (RN) work experience will be required to participate in the Clinical Nurse Residency Program.
