Job summary

The Davey Tree Expert Company in Long Grove, IL is seeking a hands-on Tree Climber to trim and remove trees, prune canopies, and support ground crews. You’ll work with safety-focused colleagues to service clients and protect landscapes.

You’ll participate in required safety trainings and use a range of climbing systems and equipment to complete tasks while advancing within a progressive greenspace stewardship team.

Qualifications

• Love of the outdoors.
• Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights is preferred.
• Ability to complete Davey Tree orientation and safety courses on hire.

Responsibilities

• Trim and remove trees, prune canopies, and remove limbs to promote health and safety.
• Operate as a crew member with ground crew and crew leader.
• Install cables, bracing, and lightning protection where needed.
• Maintain and operate tools and equipment including chainsaws and chippers.

Position Overview

Trim and remove trees, remove unwanted, diseased or dying limbs on trees, or to affect the health and safety of trees or surrounding areas by performing the following duties.

Job Duties

What You’ll Do:

• Climb Trees! Davey offers both DdRT/MRS and SRT/SRS climbing systems.
• Operate as an active crew member with supporting ground crew and crew leader.
• Perform all aspects of tree pruning and removal services safely and skillfully for clients.
• Including but not limited to:
• Pruning, thinning and removing deadwood throughout the tree canopy
• Installation of cables, bracing and lightning protection systems
• Removal of hazardous trees
• Properly maintain, prepare and operate all tools and equipment including chainsaws, chippers, aerial lifts and more.

Qualifications

What We’re Seeking:

• Love of the outdoors
• Preferred: Background in Forestry, Horticulture, Landscaping, or working at heights
• Ability to complete the Davey Tree Trimmer Orientation Program upon hire
• Ability to complete the Davey First Aid, CPR and defensive driving course upon hire
• Preferred: Relevant pesticide and related licenses and certificates, if required by state law
