Job description

Inpatient Specialty Care Advanced Practice Provider

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in Inpatient Specialty Care delivers specialized care to patients in an inpatient setting, collaborating with physicians. The APP assesses patients, interprets diagnostic tests, and develops treatment plans tailored to individual needs in conjunction with other healthcare professionals. Inpatient Specialty Care includes services such as Hospitalist care, Neurology, Pain Medicine, General Surgery, Oncology, Nephrology, Pre-admission Testing, Pediatric Teaching, and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform physical assessments, review medical histories, and interpret diagnostic tests to provide effective treatment.
  2. Conduct preventive health screenings based on patient age, history, and needs.
  3. Educate patients and families about medical conditions, treatments, and follow-up care.
  4. Maintain accurate patient records.
  5. Perform specialty care procedures in accordance with departmental guidelines within inpatient settings.
  6. Identify opportunities for improving inpatient specialty care through assessment and problem-solving.
  7. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education: Master’s Degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies. For Physician Assistants employed at Cone Health prior to October 14, 2024, a Bachelor’s Degree with a waived Master’s requirement is acceptable if employment and licensure are maintained.
  • Experience: None required; 3+ years preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification: Valid NC RN, NP, or PA license. Board certification within 1 year of hire by NCCPA (for PAs), ANCC or NCC (for NPs), or AMCB, AANP, or PNCB (for NPs). BLS (CPR) certification from American Red Cross or AHA. Neonatal Resuscitation Protocol (NRP) for Neonatal APPs. IVC certification within 90 days for Behavioral Health APPs.
