Position Overview
Depending on your qualifications, we offer a 4–6‑week paid training program tailored to your experience level to ensure you’re fully prepared to succeed. The role requires a 4–6‑week paid, safety‑first training and a fast onboarding process for CDL holders.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform thorough, federally mandated pre‑ and post‑trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety.
- Practice safe defensive driving techniques, staying alert to speed and external conditions.
- Assist passengers, including those with disabilities, ensuring ADA compliance and a welcoming experience.
- Share route and schedule information to help riders reach their destinations.
- Operate transit equipment, including fare boxes, dispatch systems, and security cameras, with confidence and precision.
- Communicate professionally with dispatch and passengers, addressing policy questions and ensuring smooth operations.
- Check employee communication channels for updates on policies and procedures.
- Complete and submit all required paperwork, including accident and incident reports, accurately and on time.
- Observe safety and security procedures, report hazards, and maintain a safe work environment.
- Serve the community by demonstrating Core Transit’s mission and values in every interaction.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory motor vehicle record.
Preferred Qualifications
- CDL Class B with passenger and air‑brake endorsement.
Special Requirements
- Must meet all physical requirements outlined in Section 391.41 of the CDL Physical Standards, including a DOT physical.
- Must comply with all federal regulations and company policies regarding drug and alcohol testing, including 49 CFR Part 655, 49 CFR Part 40, and the Drug‑Free Workplace Act of 1988.
Compensation & Benefits
- Start Pay: $30.75/hour – $31.83 after successful completion of training.
- FLSA Status: Non‑Exempt.
- Full Time: Year‑round.
- Bilingual Pay Incentive: Earn an additional $1 per hour qualifying for the bilingual Spanish/English program.

Training & Onboarding
- 4–6‑week paid training program tailored to your experience level.

Pre‑Employment Process
- Background check to confirm eligibility.
- DOT Drug & Alcohol test successfully.
- CDL Medical Exam to confirm fitness for duty and compliance with federal standards.
- Provide references for qualification and experience verification.
Work Hours & Locations
- Working hours vary: Monday‑Sunday, approximately 23 hours per day with 8/10‑hour shifts.
- Work from all our locations: Avon, Vail, Leadville as needed.
- Work holidays and weekends.
Physical Demands
- Mobility: Sitting for extended periods, standing, walking, and climbing on and off buses.
- Coordination: Simultaneous use of arms, hands, legs, and feet to operate the vehicle safely.
- Strength: Lifting and carrying up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Endurance: Maintaining focus and alertness during long shifts.
- Vision & Hearing: Clear communication and ability to respond to emergencies.
