Job summary

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is hiring Border Patrol Agents at experienced levels (GL‑9 / GS‑11) with sign‑on and retention incentives.

The role includes duties across multiple sectors, extensive training, and potential relocation to prioritized locations along the Southwest border and other duty stations. These are full‑time, career law‑enforcement positions in the Nation’s premier border protection agency.

Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship required.
• Residency: primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
• Age: referred for selection before 40th birthday, with certain veterans exceptions.
• Veterans’ Preference: eligible for excepted service Veterans’ Recruitment Appointment.
• Formal training: Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico; Spanish proficiency required.

Responsibilities

• Detect suspected immigration and customs violators and inspect documents to determine citizenship or violations.
• Maintain surveillance and use of infrared scopes at border operations.
• Interpret tracks and evidence of illegal entry or contraband.
• Perform farm, building, traffic, city, and transportation checks during patrols.
• Patrol borders and waterways using vehicles, horses, vessels, watercraft, and off‑road equipment to fulfill the USBP mission.
