Job Summary

Our Baker is a key player in making sure our bakery products look and taste amazing. In addition to providing excellent guest service, you'll be responsible for using quality ingredients to craft delicious products for our guests. As a team member, you'll focus on building relationships with customers by understanding and exceeding their needs. Your primary responsibility will be preparing and baking products to ensure only the freshest are available.

Job Description

• Experience Required: Completion of relevant skills assessment; 6 to 12 months experience or successful completion of the Giant Eagle Apprenticeship program
• Experience Desired: Prior experience in bakery or related industry
• Education: No high school diploma required
• Lifting Requirement: Up to 50 pounds
• Age Requirement: At least 18 years old

Job Responsibilities

• Perform bench work following established scratch procedures as needed
• Prepare and shape products according to recipes
• Bake products at specified times and temperatures
• Prepare bakery items using scratch recipes
• Use proof box controls to ensure proper size and shape
• Prepare and fry donuts according to procedures
• Store products in freezer or cooler to maintain freshness
• Assist guests by answering questions and resolving issues
• Demonstrate suggestive selling and offer samples when appropriate
• Provide excellent customer service, greeting customers and helping locate products
• Maintain safety standards for team members, guests, and products
• Ensure bakery products are rotated and code-dated properly for freshness
• Keep equipment, work areas, and utensils clean and sanitized
• Record special orders accurately
• Follow safety, sanitation, and housekeeping standards
• Understand ingredients and their purposes in baked goods
• Assist with unloading deliveries and maintaining backroom efficiency
• Prepare ingredients for baking operations
• Assist in other areas as needed
