Job summary

The University of Washington’s School of Oceanography invites an expedition leader (Research Scientist/Engineer 2) to join the team, supporting seagoing and shore-based operations for seafloor sampling, instrument development, QA/QC, and multidisciplinary marine science cruises.

You will lead shipboard deployment of coring/dredging gear, mentor technicians, and help develop SOPs while collaborating with operations managers and shore-based coordinators. Occasional international travel is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in relevant scientific, engineering or technical field and 2 years’ experience supporting seafloor sampling operations and associated instrumentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead shipboard deployment of coring and dredging equipment on multiple platforms.
  • Maintain sampling equipment and sensors; ensure QA/QC of sampling processes.
  • Mentor new technicians and support onboarding of PIs and technical staff.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to learn about/assess partner technologies and workflows.
