Job summary

Union Community Care seeks an Experienced EFDA to assist dentists in patient care and to maintain dental equipment and supplies. The role involves radiographs, chart reviews, and four‑handed dentistry under supervision.

Qualified candidates will hold EFDA accreditation and a current dental license, radiology and CPR certification, and English proficiency. Responsibilities include maintaining OSHA compliance and supporting clinic operations and patient education.

Also responsible for maintaining the dental equipment, supplies, clinical area and ensuring OSHA compliance.SPECIFIC JOB DUTIESPatient Care1. Welcomes and prepares patient to be treated by the dentist2. Helps patient to feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment3. Takes any prescribed radiographs (x-rays) for the dentists4. Reviews health and dental histories with the patient5. Takes patient’s blood pressure6. Places restorative material after dentist has prepared tooth (teeth)7. Places sealants, polishes and applies fluoride varnish as directed by dentist8. When necessary make notes in the dental chart (i.e. chief complaint and blood pressure readings)9. Prepares operatory for procedure to be performed10. Assists dentist in performing four-handed dentistry following established Policies and Protocols for each individual procedure11. Places and removes rubber dams and matrices (Under Direct Supervision)12. Places and contours amalgam, composite, and other restorative material (Under Direct Supervision)13. Place dental sealants (Under Direct Supervision)14. Apply fluoride treatments and polishing teeth (Under Direct Supervision)15. Following the dental procedure, gives patient any necessary post-op instructions or home care instructions16. Completes the patient visit by taking them to the check-out deskOperatory Maintenance17. After every visit removes all disposable barriers and instruments18. Uses proper pre-cleaning and disinfecting procedures to disinfectant all surfaces and supplies19. Replaces all barriers in operatory and sets up instruments for the next patient20. Maintains dental equipment and informs Dental PM about any necessary equipment repairs21. Ensures dental supplies are stocked in proper areas (i.e. operatory and lab)• Dental Laboratory22. Cleans and sterilizes dental equipment after every patient visit23. Maintains sterilization equipment24. Re-stocks and pulls supply tags for the dental order, gives supply tags to Dental PM 225. Maintains dental radiograph sensors and machine26. Pours impressions27. Tracks dental laboratory cases and contacts dental labs as needed for pick-up or other communicationsMiscellaneous Duties28. Participates in any meetings, seminars, or training sessions as directed.29. Assists as an interpreter for dental providers as needed30. Assists front desk in times of under-staffing31. Performs other work-related duties as assignedPOSITION REQUIREMENTS• EFDA accreditation and licensed• License recertification every two years• Radiology certification; recertified every four years• CPR certified; recertified every two years• Child abuse clearance; re-checked every two years• Attends fraud, waste, abuse and cultural competency classes every year• Knowledge and familiarity with dental and medical terminology• English proficiency requiredESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSIn order to fulfill the requirements of this position, duties 1-31 are considered essential functions of the job.ORGANIZATIONAL INVOLVEMENTThis position is required to participate in mandatory all staff meetings, team meetings and trainings.
