Job summary

Union Community Care is seeking a dental assistant to support dentists in patient care, radiography, and operatory maintenance. You will help ensure comfort, accuracy, and safety throughout procedures while maintaining equipment and supplies.

The role requires PA radiology certification, CPR, and background clearances, with strong English skills and familiarity with dental terminology. Expect collaborative teamwork in a community health setting with ongoing trainings.

Qualifications

  • PA Dental Radiology Certification (recert every four years).
  • CPR certification and recertification every two years.
  • Child Abuse Clearance refreshed every two years.
  • Annual fraud, waste, abuse and cultural competency trainings.
  • Knowledge of dental and medical terminology.
  • Knowledge and use of dental software; English proficiency required.

Responsibilities

  • Welcomes and prepares patients for dental care.
  • Assists dentist in four-handed dentistry per protocols.
  • Takes prescribed radiographs for the dentists.
  • Reviews and updates health and dental histories.
  • Maintains operatory and sterilization of equipment.

Each of us is a neighbor, a friend, a family member, and together, we are a trusted community health center.JOB SUMMARYAssists the dentists with providing dental care to the patients of Union Community Care (UCC) Is also responsible for maintaining the dental equipment, supplies, clinical area and ensuring OSHA compliance.SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES• Patient Care1. Welcomes and prepares patient to be treated by the dentist2. Helps patient to feel comfortable before, during, and after dental treatment3. Takes any prescribed radiographs (x-rays) for the dentists4. Reviews and updates health and dental histories with the patient5. Takes patient’s blood pressure6. When necessary, makes notes in the dental chart (i.e. chief complaint and blood pressure readings)7. Prepares operatory for procedure to be performed8. Assists dentist in performing four-handed dentistry following established Policies and Protocols for each individual procedure9. Following the dental procedure, gives any necessary post-op instructions or home care instructions10. Completes the patient visit by taking them to the check-out desk• Operatory Maintenance11. After every visit removes all disposable barriers and instruments12. Uses proper pre-cleaning and disinfecting procedures to disinfectant all surfaces and supplies13. Replaces all barriers in operatory and sets up instruments for the next patient14. Maintains dental equipment and informs Dental PM about any necessary equipment repairs15. Ensures that dental supplies are stocked in proper areas (i.e. operatory and lab)• Dental Laboratory16. Cleans and sterilizes dental equipment after every patient visit17. Maintains sterilization equipment18. Stocks and pulls tags for the dental order; gives supply tags to the Dental PM19. Maintains dental radiograph sensors and machine20. Pours impressions21. Tracks dental laboratory cases and contacts dental labs as needed for pick-up or other communications• Miscellaneous Duties:22. Participates in any meetings, seminars, or training sessions as directed23. Assists as an interpreter for dental providers as needed24. Assists front desk in times of under-staffing25. Performs other work-related duties as assignedPOSITION REQUIREMENTS• Pennsylvania Dental Radiology Certification; recertified every four (4) years• CPR Certified; recertified every two (2) years• Child Abuse Clearance; re-checked every two (2) years• Attends fraud, waste, abuse and cultural competency classes every year• Knowledge and familiarity with dental and medical terminology• Knowledge and use of dental software• English proficiency requiredESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSIn order to fulfill the requirements of this position, duties 1-25 are considered essential functions of the job.ORGANIZATIONAL INVOLVEMENTThis position is required to participate in mandatory all staff meetings, team meetings and trainings.
