Job summary

Premier Community HealthCare is seeking an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA I) to provide advanced chairside support, perform expanded functions during restorative and surgical procedures, take radiographs and digital scans, and educate patients on oral health.

This PRN (as-needed) position in West Pasco, FL, supports infection control, patient flow, and EMR documentation while ensuring HIPAA compliance and compassionate care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced chairside assistance during restorative, prosthetic, and oral surgery procedures.
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment according to established clinical standards.
  • Assist with impressions, evacuation, tissue retraction, cementation, hemostasis, and other expanded functions within scope of practice.
  • Take dental radiographs and digital scans while following all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Prepare and mix dental materials for clinical procedures.
  • Verify completion of patient consent forms prior to treatment.
  • Track laboratory cases and process related documentation.
  • Review patient charts for completeness, referrals, radiographs, and treatment documentation.
  • Communicate scheduling delays and assist with patient flow throughout the clinic.
  • Assist chairside during administration of nitrous oxide when appropriately certified.
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions.
  • Maintain sterilization of instruments, operatories, and equipment in accordance with infection prevention standards.
  • Ensure HIPAA compliance and maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Participate in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance (QI/QA) initiatives and support departmental goals.
  • Support community outreach activities and perform other duties as assigned.

General Description

The Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA I) is responsible for providing advanced chairside support to dentists while helping deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality dental care. This position performs expanded functions during restorative and surgical procedures, prepares treatment rooms, takes radiographs and digital scans, educates patients on oral health, and ensures a positive patient experience.

The EFDA works collaboratively with dentists and the dental care team to support clinical excellence while promoting Premier Community HealthCare's mission of providing accessible, compassionate care to the communities we serve.

  • Provide advanced chairside assistance during restorative, prosthetic, and oral surgery procedures
  • Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, materials, and equipment according to established clinical standards

Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Current Florida Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) certification required
  • Graduate of an American Dental Association (ADA)-accredited Dental Assisting Program
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Epic certification and complete annual compliance training
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. regularly and 30-50 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to sit for extended periods
  • Ability to travel between Premier Community HealthCare sites as needed
  • Direct exposure to computer screens
  • Possible exposure to contagious or infectious diseases
