Job summary

Northside Family Dental is seeking an Expanded Function Dental Assistant (EFDA) in northeast Columbus. The role offers a family-oriented environment where staff are valued and patients are cared for.

The EFDA will assist dentists, sterilize instruments, prepare treatment areas, and perform coronal polishing, sealants, and fluoride applications while maintaining accurate dental charts. Ohio EFDA registration and CP R certification are required.

Qualifications

• Must be registered EFDA with the Ohio State Dental Board.
• Must hold state coronal polishing certificate from the Ohio State Board of Dentistry.
• Current CPR certification (recertification provided).
• 2–3 years minimum EFDA experience in a dental practice.
• Ability to comply with safety procedures and maintain a clean, safe environment.
• Knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and practices.

Responsibilities

• Assist the dentist during procedures and support daily office workflow.
• Adhere to health and safety regulations and office policies.
• Prepare patients and work areas for treatments.
• Sterilize dental instruments.
• Place fillings using restorative materials, sculpt and polish, ensure proper bite and flossing.
• Apply sealants to protect against cavities.
• Apply fluoride to teeth for prevention.
• Perform coronal polishing for additional cleaning.
• Create and maintain dental charts describing patient teeth.
• Schedule patient appointments as needed.

Responsibilities

• Assist dentist during procedures as needed and other tasks associated with assisting the daily workflow of the office
• Adhere to all health and safety regulations and office policies
• Prepare patients and the work area for treatments and procedures
• Sterilize dental instruments
• Place fillings- use restorative materials to place, sculpt & polish fillings, check the bite occlusion, and make sure that the area flosses well
• Sealants application – applying a thin layer of plastic on teeth to seal them and prevent cavities
• Fluoride application – applying fluoride gel to the teeth for cavity prevention
• Coronal polishing – buffing away small, soft plaque deposits from the teeth for additional cleaning
• Dental charting – creating a chart that lists and describes the condition of a patient’s teeth
• Schedule patient appointments as needed

Qualifications

• Registered as an EFDA by the Ohio State Dental Board
• Received a state certificate in coronal polishing from the Ohio State Board of Dentistry
• Current CPR certification (re-certification provided)
• 2-3 years minimum experience working in a dental practice as an EFDA
• Ability to comply with safety procedures, rules, and regulations in order to maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Working knowledge of dental terminology, equipment, and practices
• Comfortable working with a diverse patient population
