Job summary

New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, NM, seeks a Museum Collections and Exhibits Coordinator to administer traveling and permanent exhibits, manage museum collections, loans, and related records under limited supervision.

You will collaborate with the Executive Director of Western Heritage Museum & Lea County Cowboy Hall of Fame, plan and install exhibitions from concept to completion, monitor environmental conditions, and contribute to public education and outreach.

Qualifications

• Associates or Bachelor's degree in Museum Science, Museum Studies, or related field, preferred.
• One year of experience in collections management or curating as a museum professional, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Administers traveling exhibits, permanent exhibits, museum collections, loans, and records.
• Monitors environmental conditions to preserve artifacts in storage, exhibition, and transit.
• Oversees incoming and outgoing loans, including shipping, inventory, and logistics.
• Implements preservation and risk management practices to ensure collection security.
• Plans, designs, installs, and deinstalls exhibitions from concept through completion.
• Coordinates exhibitions with staff and external partners and maintains schedules and contracts.
• Assists with exhibit design, layout, mount-making, artifact handling, label writing, and text panels.
• Provides basic carpentry and electrical support for exhibit installation and maintenance.
• Contributes to museum communications, including website, social media, publications, and newsletters.
