Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a registered nurse to join our PACU/critical care team in Exeter, NH. Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director, you will deliver professional nursing care, coordinate care planning, and ensure safe medication and IV administration.

The role includes precepting new staff, presenting case studies, documenting care, and participating in patient education and discharge planning. A $5,000 sign-on bonus is available for eligible hires.

Qualifications

  • RN license required in NH or a compact state.
  • Minimum 1 year PACU or critical care experience preferred.
  • BCLS certification required or within 30 days of hire.
  • CPAN or CAPA certification preferred.
  • BSN degree preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to hospital policies, ANA standards of practice, and nursing code of ethics.
  • Ensures safe, timely and accurate medication and IV administration and transcription.
  • Documentation is accurate, timely, concise, and legible and adheres to departmental policy.
  • Integrates policies and/or national practice guidelines into patient care planning.
  • Precepts new employees, sets goals and assists the new employee in meeting those goals.
  • Facilitates and encourages an environment for critical thinking.
  • Makes 1-2 formal presentations to peers annually.
  • Assists in meeting the learning and professional development needs of others.
  • Communicates effectively during patient hand-offs.
  • Identifies patient priorities and discharge planning needs by utilizing assessment and team input.
  • Documents patient education, interventions and responses clearly.
  • Maintains certification in specialty area.

Job description

Reporting to the Nurse Manager/Director of the Unit, provides professional nursing care within assigned unit. Coordinates care planning with other disciplines. Job Description: $5,000 sign-on bonus available for eligible hires. Bonus amounts for positions under 40 hours per week will be prorated. Per diem roles are not eligible.

Major Responsibilities
  • Adheres to hospital policies, ANA standards of practice, and nursing code of ethics.
  • Ensures safe, timely and accurate medication and IV administration and transcription.
  • Successfully uses information technology.
  • Documentation is accurate, timely, concise, and legible and adheres to departmental policy.
  • Integrates policies and/or national practice guidelines into patient care planning to achieve desired patient care outcomes.
  • Is an expert resource for content development of clinical practice (and therefore policy/procedure review or development).
  • Precepts new employees, sets goals and assists the new employee in meeting those goals.
  • Facilitates and encourages an environment for critical thinking.
  • Makes 1-2 formal presentations (case study, new equipment in service, or education program) to peers at least annually.
  • Assists in meeting the learning and professional development needs of others.
  • Understands team members' roles and delegates tasks and responsibilities appropriate to the licensure, education, and experience of the staff.
  • Assigns personnel appropriately; understands when follow-up is needed.
  • Monitors and evaluates appropriate utilization of staff during assigned shifts.
  • Performs a physical assessment and elicits comprehensive patient history on admission appropriate to the setting and patient's condition utilizing accepted practice and documentation standards.
  • Performs systematic, ongoing assessments as patient condition and unit standards warrant.
  • Uses appropriate evidence-based assessment techniques and instruments in collecting pertinent data.
  • Prioritizes established patient care problems and needs.
  • Makes clinical decisions independently, collaboratively, and manages one's own assignment.
  • Manages own assignment while balancing efficiency and cost.
  • Recognizes own limitations and seeks collaboration/assistance when needed.
  • Modifies plans and re-prioritizes work quickly to handle the unexpected.
  • Manages multiple demands in prioritizing the patient care needs of an entire unit/dept.
  • Adapts routine protocols and resources to demonstrate effective clinical decision making in situations that are less than predictable.
  • Communicates effectively during any patient hand-off.
  • Identifies and anticipates patient care needs and initiates the plan of care based upon actual or potential health risks or problems to attain mutually agreed upon outcomes.
  • Identifies patient priorities and discharge planning needs by utilizing assessment, best practice standards, multidisciplinary team, and patient input.
  • Evaluates and modifies the effectiveness of the plan of care based on mutually agreed upon outcomes and patient feedback.
  • Identifies patient education needs and collaborates with other health care professionals to provide appropriate learning opportunities.
  • Documents patient education, interventions and patient's response in a clear and concise manner.
  • Develops formal patient education materials independently.
  • Develops/participates in community education programs or screens.
  • Seeks formal education to maintain and advance clinical and professional skills and knowledge.
  • Seeks assignments that challenge and stretch their ability.
  • Anticipates the need for and acquires new skills/training.
  • Able to work in more than one specialty area/unit/environment.
  • Is an active member of a professional organization and shares organizational information with their home department.
  • Maintains certification in specialty area.
Requirements
  • RN license – N.H. state or any other compact state.

Pay Range

Pay Range: $35.00 - $63.15 The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
