Job summary

Reliant Medical Group, part of Optum, in Worcester, MA, is seeking a qualified healthcare professional to join its outpatient Pacemaker Clinic. Under general supervision, you will perform exercise stress tests and pacemaker care, including interrogation and programming, in a patient-centered environment.

The role requires a BS in related field, CPR and BLS certification, and strong teamwork. Hours are Monday through Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm, with no weekends, holidays, or evenings.

Qualifications

• B.S. in Exercise Physiology/Science or related field (or equivalent experience).
• CPR certification and American Heart Association BLS.
• EKG certification or completed within a year of hire.
• ACLS may be required based on specialty.

Responsibilities

• Independently performs cardiac stress testing and related measurements.
• Operates pacemaker/ICD patient care, interrogation and programming.
• Coordinate with care team to provide timely, efficient care.
• Educate patients and families on device function and follow-up.
• Document findings and ensure proper reports are generated.

Position Summary

Under general supervision, independently performs exercise stress tests. Obtains and interprets, under exertion stress, electrocardiogram tracings, blood pressure, heart rate responses and patient symptoms, recognizing variations of normal and pathological patterns of test results. Under limited supervision, performs a variety of patient care and technical duties in our outpatient Pacemaker Clinic, including preparing charts for MD interpretation, pacemaker interrogation & programming and trans telephonic pacemaker follow-up. Determines when an adequate test has been obtained and consults supervisor or cardiologist as needed. Additional duties may include taking medical histories, recording vital signs, scheduling patients, equipment maintenance plus other duties as prescribed by the physician.

Primary Responsibilities

• Independently performs cardiac stress testing, including obtaining exercising blood pressure and monitoring electrocardiogram throughout the exam. Obtains past medical history, attaches electrodes, directs patients to perform prescribed physical activity, and monitors the cardiac performance throughout the test
• Performs calculations on information from stress tests
• Recognizes normal and abnormal cardiac rhythms and hemodynamic responses to exercise and reports them to physician
• Enrolls, interrogates and programs outpatient pacemaker/ICD patients. Recognizes pacemaker abnormalities, malfunctions and replacement needed indicators; notifies cardiologist and assists in scheduling patients for follow up or replacement as indicated
• Coordinates and prioritizes with other members of the healthcare team to respond to, plan, and initiate timely and efficient care
• Educates patients and families regarding pacemaker device function and clinic follow up scheduling
• Responsible for pacemaker device trans telephonic monitoring and reporting issues. Monitors patients to ensure they report in quarterly, outreaches to patients that are overdue, reviews the transmissions and identifies/flags any irregularities. Communicates with the physician and uploads information into the medical record
• Provides for the emotional, physical well-being, and safety of all patients while maintaining strict standards of patient confidentiality. Assesses patients prior to testing in order to assure patient comfort and cooperation during test and to insure quality results. Possesses the ability to communicate effectively with patients as well as other members of the health care team
• Appropriately documents all abnormal findings, measurements, and dates necessary to complete exam
• Documents procedures as needed. Assists with the distribution of necessary reports
• Performs regular equipment maintenance, preparation and cleaning
• Maintains necessary supplies for department operations
• Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

• B.S. in Exercise Physiology/Science, Cardiopulmonary Sciences or related field (or equivalent education, training or experience)
• CPR certification
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)

Preferred Qualifications

• EKG Certification or completion of within a year of hire
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiac medications
• Proven good interpersonal, organizational and decision-making skills
• Proven ability to independently perform tests
• Proven ability to take initiative and work independently
