Description:

Exercise Physiologist

Location: Ontario, Oregon

Position's Purpose

Administers exercise sessions safely to obtain reliable and valid data. Provides exercise-related education to patients and the community. Responsible for all exercise science standards needed to meet regulatory and credentialing requirements.

Prepares exercise lab for administration of exercises, prepares patients for exercise sessions, records data, and communicates data to physicians and managers as necessary.

Hours: This is a per diem position that will provide full-time hours during the extensive 4-5 weeks training period and will provide consistent hours afterward.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, or Kinesiology required; Master's preferred.

American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS/HCP) certification required; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) within 6 months of hire.

Clinical teaching experience preferred. Experience in exercise programming, stress reduction, and nutrition preferred. Experience with blood pressure, pulses, EKG interpretation, pulse oximetry, and oxygen administration preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Monitor exercise prescription development for rehabilitation patients and recommend changes to the coordinator prior to implementation.
  • Work with patients with chronic diseases to establish safe and effective exercise and lifestyle behaviors.
  • Conduct health screenings, submaximal graded exercise tests, strength, flexibility, and body composition assessments.
  • Complete treatment plans every thirty days for all patients.
  • Administer Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing (CPET or CPEX).
  • Handle insurance prior-authorization requirements.
  • Perform vital signs and document in telemetry system. Administer blood glucose tests.
  • Recognize symptoms/signs of problems, initiate appropriate medical response, and follow department curriculum for patient education.
  • Participate in program evaluation and improvement.
  • Adhere to certification guidelines through AACVPR.
  • Provide mentoring, training, and orientation as needed.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational and regulatory guidelines for rehab programs.
  • Manage a broad range of patient populations and abilities.
  • Maintain and inspect exercise equipment, report repair needs.
  • Possess good organizational and communication skills. Have clinical knowledge of disease management and post-operative recovery, including EKG interpretation.
