Job summary

The National Institute for Fitness and Sport (NIFS) is seeking a part-time Health Fitness Specialist/Exercise Physiologist. The role covers exercise program design, fitness testing, and customer service in a large fitness center setting.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s or Master’s in a health-related field, 3 years of fitness experience, ACSM guidelines knowledge, and CPR/AED/First Aid certification. ACSM-EP preferred or other accredited certifications acknowledged.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in exercise science, kinesiology, physical education, sports medicine, or health education.
• Three years of fitness instructor and/or personal training experience.
• Ability to conduct fitness assessments and develop exercise programs using ACSM guidelines.
• ACSM-EP preferred; other accredited org certifications acknowledged.
• Ability to teach basic group fitness classes.
• Interest/experience with weight loss programming.

Responsibilities

• Provide customer-focused attention during member interactions with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Assist in daily supervision and administration of a large fitness center.
• Administer fitness assessments and functional movement screenings.
• Assess health status of members to provide exercise and wellness recommendations.
• Create effective exercise programs by integrating goals, health history, and data.
• Provide fitness floor assistance to ensure safety and motivate members.
• Demonstrate safe exercise form on all equipment.
• Perform member retention activities.
• Support coworkers in fitness/wellness incentive programs.
• Assist in developing and instructing group classes for participants and staff.
• Assist in cleaning equipment and other areas as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
