Job description

Description

The Exercise Physiologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Exercise Physiologist, in collaboration with a physician and a dietician, develops and implements exercise prescriptions, evaluates patient population parameters, and selects approaches to manage and reduce health risks. This position also provides exercise and lifestyle counseling for individuals and groups and educates patients about the role of exercise in disease management and lifestyle medicine.

Hours: Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborates with the physician to set objectives for the patient based on medical history, physical limitations, evaluation of cardiovascular risk factors, and current fitness level.
  • Meets with patients to assess motivation and stage of readiness to change.
  • Identifies appropriate physical activity, exercise, and behavioral intervention.
  • Develops and implements exercise plan/program.
  • Conducts hands-on training, including demonstrating/correcting proper exercise form, and leading individuals through a customized workout.
  • Educates on the role of exercise in chronic disease management (including, but not limited to, obesity, cardiovascular and pulmonary disease, hypertension, diabetes, osteoporosis, cancer, and depression).
  • Provides ongoing consultation and evaluates the effectiveness of intervention.
  • Develops, presents, and updates educational materials to promote education and behavioral goals for the patient (including developing, maintaining, and continuously updating a library of written materials, wellness newsletters, online programs, and apps about exercise).
  • Identifies and communicates key issues and trends to the health care team and participates in in-service training for staff.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Master of Science in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science, Kinesiology, or related field.
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification.
  • Zero (0) to two (2) years’ experience in a relevant role.
  • Experience in a clinical outpatient setting.

Preferred:

  • American College of Sports Medicine or Registered Clinical Exercise Physiologist or Exercise Specialist certification.
