Exercise Physiologist (EP) - Cardio/Pulmonary Rehab

Major Responsibilities:
  1. Ensure appropriate, safe, and effective exercise protocols.
  2. Comply with departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
  3. Assist in patient interviews and evaluations, determine suitable stress tests, and communicate with physicians.
  4. Understand the progression of heart disease in adult cardiac patients.
  5. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  6. Promote patient safety by reporting issues and participating in safety initiatives.
  7. Conduct exercise sessions following individual stress test protocols and communicate needed changes to physicians.
  8. Develop and update informational materials for patients and groups.
  9. Create a safe environment for exercise and ensure proper use of equipment.
  10. Demonstrate teaching strategies to patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  11. Assist patients in learning to perform exercise tests safely.
  12. Perform CPR and emergency procedures as per policy.
  13. Participate in professional development and contribute to continuous quality improvement (CQI).
  14. Attend relevant in-services and continuing education programs.
  15. Identify opportunities for personal and departmental improvement.
  16. Provide feedback and pertinent information to healthcare team members.
Education/Experience Required:
  • M.S. in Exercise Physiology
  • Knowledge of cardiac monitoring and intervention; experience in cardiac rehab required.
  • Experience with various age groups and understanding of normal aging processes preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Good communication skills
  • Familiarity with cardiac monitors
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification within 3 months
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
  • Willingness to stay current with stress testing concepts
  • Assertiveness and optimism
  • Ability to contribute ideas for performance improvement
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; use of patient handling equipment for heavier lifts
