General Summary:
Provides clinical supervision for all modalities of cardiac stress testing including stress echocardiograms, GXT’s, nuclear stress testing and pharmacologic stress tests.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Physiology, Exercise Science or closely related field.
- Previous experience in cardiac stress testing preferred.
- Possess extensive electrocardiogram knowledge.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) provider. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) provider required within 30 days of hire.
- American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) Certification required within 90 days of employment, for all new hires after January 1, 2025.
- Possess thorough knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology particularly of ischemic heart disease.
- Population Specific Competency: ability to effectively interact with populations of patient/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Performs pharmacologic and graded exercise stress testing procedure in accordance with ACC/AHA guidelines.
- Review and interpret patient laboratory results and medical record history prior to stress testing in outpatient and inpatient areas.
- Perform all department exercise and pharmacologic testing studies, including explaining procedures/significance/safety precautions, instructing patients, monitoring patient vitals, utilizing necessary equipment to produce accurate EKG tracings, interpreting EKG’s, recognizing and identifying abnormal rhythms/cardiac issues during testing.
- Make diagnostic decisions based off EKG interpretation during stress testing.
- Works efficiently with other departments and correlates exams as a team.
- Provide concise and accurate data for cardiologist interpretation.
- Communicates with Cardiologist and Nurse overseeing cardiac stress testing and consults when required.
- Identifies patients with concerning symptoms and or values that are out of range or experiencing condition changes.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining equipment, stocking rooms, scanning and chart prep.
- Seeks to improve quality and service by continuously developing individual and departmental competencies within scope of practice.
- Assist office with resting EKGs.
- Provide support and teaching to Exercise Physiologist interns.
- Performs other duties as assigned. These may include but are not limited to: Maintaining a current knowledge base of department processes, protocols and procedures, pursuing self-directed learning and continuing education opportunities, and participating on committees, task forces, and work groups as determined by management.
