Job summary

Cone Health in North Carolina is seeking an Exercise Physiologist I to design exercise prescriptions based on each Rehab participant’s status and testing results. The role involves monitoring physiological data and adjusting plans to ensure safety and therapeutic benefit, with mentoring as needed.

You will educate participants, collaborate with the rehab team, and assist in data management, documentation, and program development for home and discharge plans.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or physical education.

Responsibilities

• Performs functional capacity tests, balance and MSK evaluations and creates customized exercise prescriptions.
• Documents patient information in medical records accurately for data management and quality indicators.
• Provides individual and group education on exercise, risk factors, and health conditions.
• Develops individualized home and discharge exercise plans.
• Maintains a written preventative maintenance program for equipment follow ups.
• Generates referrals and enrollments and communicates with providers about participation.
• Supervises student interns, ensuring adherence to policies and guidance.

Job description

The Exercise Physiologist works as part of an integrated clinical team and is accountable to design an exercise prescription based on each Rehab participant’s clinical status and/or exercise testing results. The Exercise Physiologist I will monitor physiological data and make appropriate adjustments for the safety and therapeutic benefit of the patient/participant. They will also assist in the education of participants and interact and communicate effectively with other disciplines involved in care of adult and geriatric Rehab participants. This level requires guidance and mentoring for completion of essential job functions.

Essential Job Function

• Performs functional capacity tests, balance and Musculo-Skeletal evaluations with attention to accuracy and safety assess test results to create customized exercise prescription and results report.
• Documents necessary information in patient's medical record in an accurate and timely manner to assist with data management and quality indicators for the Rehab program as appropriate with attention to detail and timeliness.
• Provides individual and group education sessions for patients/participants to counsel on exercise, risk factors and other applicable teachings on health and medical conditions.
• Develops an individualized exercise plan/program for the patient/participant for home and discharge.
• Facilitates the preventive maintenance of equipment by maintaining a written and documented preventative maintenance program for follow ups as needed.
• Generates referrals, memberships and new patient/participant enrollments which includes telephone calls or communicating with providers regarding program participation.
• Supervises student interns ensuring adherence to policies, procedures, and techniques, answering questions, conducting orientation, explaining correct procedures, demonstrating techniques, and intervening where warranted to correct deficiencies in a timely and professional manner.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

• Required: Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or physical education.
• Preferred: Master's Degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, or physical education.

Experience

• Preferred:1 or more years of experience working in a clinical/cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation setting.

Licensure/Certification/Listing

• Required: BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider. Required to obtain ACLS within one year of hire.
