ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB: For purposes of 42 USC 12101:
- 20% Completes patient assessments for adult fitness and employees, including chart completion and enrollment in appropriate computer program, prepares and maintains patient records and reports.
- 15% Monitors cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients; takes blood pressures, pulses, pulse oximetry; takes body composition measurements, body measurements, flexibility measurements; performs CPR as required; produces a list of patient problems or cardiopulmonary diagnosis and desired outcomes; implements plan of care including the provision of education appropriate to the patient’s age, level of comprehension, physical needs, psychosocial needs and social/cultural status on an individual basis.
- 20% Interacts with all Wellness Center clients including sick, injured or disabled patients to ambulate and/or perform exercise; demonstrates, orients, and instructs patients on their program including use of exercise equipment; recognizes patient complications and acts accordingly; able to perform CPR as needed.
- 10% Together with other staff, helps administer and coordinate cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, adult fitness, helps with the employee fitness programs; assists with health fairs, assists with new program development and patient incentive programs;
- 5% Completes patient assessments for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, including chart completion and enrollment in appropriate computer program, prepares and maintains patient records and reports.
- 10% Contacts patient insurance companies to verify benefits and coverage. Interacts with patients, family members, co-workers, other departments, ancillary services, physicians and their staff to educate patients on a variety of topics related to wellness; provides kindness and consideration in meeting the emotional needs of patients;
- 5% Assists with completion of weekly, monthly, and discharge paperwork and charts for cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation patients. Assists with patient scheduling of diagnostic tests related to the patient’s program.
- 5% Identifies department cost-saving opportunities; participates in the quality review program of the department, department QI studies and hospital TQM efforts.
- 5% Performs crash cart daily check; inspects, cleans and tests therapeutic and diagnostic equipment to ensure proper operation and function; performs calibration of diagnostic equipment when available; orders and stocks supplies; operates computer to perform patient charging and information retrieval.
- 5% Makes visual observations, hears sounds and tones, identifies odors, uses palpitation and interview techniques in assessing patient’s age, physical status, psychosocial status, spiritual needs, language barriers, mental state and level of knowledge and understanding; evaluates patient care based on all assessment findings.
- Able to work flexible schedule to accommodate department coverage

- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Attends all mandatory education and in-services (i.e., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); completes mandatory health requirements.
- Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in exercise physiology or related field; experience in all aspects of wellness and/or cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation including telemetry monitoring; completion of BLS; ACLS required within 4 months of employment.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Maintains continuous certification in American Heart Association’s BLS; attains American Heart Association’s ACLS certification within four (4) months of employment and maintains continuous certification.
