Job summary

Dartmouth Health is seeking a skilled professional to perform stress testing, monitor patient physiology during exercise, and generate preliminary reports. You will contribute to safety, accuracy, and quality of stress testing services in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Responsibilities include pre-test evaluations, on-site monitoring, IV access support, and collaboration with pediatric and adult cardiology teams while maintaining compliance with ACSM guidelines and lab protocols.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science/Physiology/Kinesiology or related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and/or ACSM CEP Certification strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of cardiorespiratory physiology and ECG interpretation; familiar with ACSM guidelines for exercise testing.
  • Flexibility required for weekend on-call duties as assigned within rotating schedule.

Overview

Conducts stress tests, monitors and responds to the patient's condition during the test and summarizes exercise tracings. Ensures proper maintenance of supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities
  1. Conducts pre-test evaluation including patient assessment, obtaining medical history, explains procedure, and obtains informed consent.
  2. Monitors the patient's response to exercise, measures rest, exercise, and recovery hemodynamics, interprets ECG throughout exercise, and terminates the procedure according to lab protocols.
  3. Creates preliminary report summarizing all findings from stress tests.
  4. Alerts attending cardiologist regarding concerns or abnormal findings.
  5. Triages appropriateness of all ordered stress tests, and makes recommendations to ordering providers as needed.
  6. Becomes proficient in stress echo/nuclear stress tests.
  7. Learns to place peripheral IVs for stress testing and out-patient echocardiograms. Assists with contrast administration and agitated saline studies.
  8. Performs pediatric stress testing under the supervision of a pediatric cardiologist.
  9. Participates in the training of fellows and other physicians in stress testing.
  10. Ensures that supplies are available and conducts emergency equipment checks including medications and defibrillator.
  11. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science/Physiology/Kinesiology or a related field required.
  • Master’s Degree in Exercise Physiology and/or ACSM (American College of Sports Medicine) CEP (Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologist) Certification strongly preferred.
  • Current knowledge of cardiorespiratory physiology and pathophysiology, ECG (Electrocardiogram) interpretation and current ACSM guidelines to exercise testing.
  • Flexibility required for weekend on-call duties as assigned within a rotating schedule.
Required Licensure/Certifications
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) required within three (3) months of hire.
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) required within three (3) months of hire.
  • BLS required at time of hire.
