Job summary

Arch Insurance Group Inc. is seeking an experienced underwriter to provide underwriting and marketing duties, applying financial analysis and risk assessment to determine credit quality. The role involves cultivating producer relationships, managing a profitable book of business, and pursuing new opportunities in the NY/NJ region.

Hybrid or remote work is possible. Candidates should have 5+ years in surety underwriting and preferably an AFSB designation, with a finance/business degree.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of surety underwriting experience or equivalent
• AFSB designation preferred
• Bachelor’s or higher in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business or related field

Responsibilities

• Gather and analyze information to evaluate credit quality and risk.
• Develop and maintain relationships with assigned producers and cultivate new relationships.
• Manage a book of business and meet profitability objectives.
• Build strategic relationships and pursue new business within the defined territory.
• Monitor accounts for compliance with Arch standards and recommend corrective actions.
• Prepare underwriting submissions and make recommendations within authority limits.
• Assist in regional planning and budgeting and support Branch Manager projects.

Position Summary

Under direction, provide underwriting and marketing duties by imparting high levels of financial analysis, risk assessment and technical underwriting expertise to determine credit quality and underwriting acceptability.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Gather and analyze information, applying appropriate underwriting techniques, necessary to make an accurate evaluation of credit quality & acceptability of risk
• Develop and maintain strong working relationships with assigned producers and cultivate new relationships
• Responsible for developing and managing a book of business, meeting/exceeding profitability objectives as set forth by management.
• This includes building and growing strategic relationships as well as finding opportunity for new business within the defined territory
• Continuously monitor assigned accounts to ensure compliance with Arch standards and make/recommend appropriate corrective actions as needed
• Prepare underwriting submissions, making recommendations and/or decisions within established authority limits
• Assist in internal reporting and preparing/implementing regional business plan and budget
• Perform additional projects as requested by Branch Manager

Required Skills and Abilities

• Solid understanding of financial and accounting principles and the ability to demonstrate sound business judgment in evaluation of the financial condition, experience, credit history and character of contract surety accounts
• Strong oral and written communication and organizational skills
• Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload to meet agreed upon expectations
• Learns quickly and demonstrates an open attitude when faced with new problems, processes, or procedures
• Strong leadership skills

Desired Skills and Abilities

• Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office software products

Education and Experience

• 5+ years Surety underwriting experience and/or equivalent surety related experience preferred
• AFSB designation preferred
• Bachelors or higher degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting Business or equivalent preferred

Salary & Compensation

$86,300 - $194,516/year Executive Underwriter, for NY, NJ: $86,300 - $134,011/year Underwriting Manager, for NY, NJ: $133,300 - $194,516/year
