Description

The Executive Underwriter, Technology Lead - Middle Market, West Division, is responsible for developing, growing, and maintaining a profitable book of technology Property & Casualty insurance. This involves marketing, underwriting, building agent/broker relationships, and applying underwriting tools and systems. The role also includes mentoring less experienced underwriters, providing coaching, and contributing to team development.

  • Ideal candidate is based in a West Coast market with active broker relationships.
  • Risk Selection: Reviews, rates, underwrites, and assesses insurance applications, determines premiums, and negotiates deals.
  • Agent/Broker Relationships: Supports agents and brokers through responsive service, site visits, and meetings. Builds a strong personal brand to maintain a quality pipeline.
  • Portfolio Management: Manages a complex book of business, analyzes opportunities for growth and diversification, and executes marketing plans.
  • Documenting the Deal: Maintains comprehensive and compliant files reflecting sound decision-making.
  • Leadership: Mentors and coaches underwriters and analysts, demonstrating expertise and providing updates.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participates in problem-solving and process improvement activities.

Qualifications

  • Advanced knowledge of insurance products, underwriting, risk selection, and marketplace dynamics; familiarity with finance, actuarial concepts, and reinsurance.
  • Ability to use underwriting tools and systems effectively, build relationships, and negotiate.
  • Bachelor’s degree with 7-10 years of relevant experience; CPCU or similar designation preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of underwriting experience in technology insurance.
  • Experience with Technology E&O and Cyber insurance strongly preferred.
