Job summary

The Town of Matthews seeks an experienced engineer to direct the Engineering Department as Town Engineer. You will oversee engineering operations, capital project delivery, development engineering, and standards across town infrastructure.

You will lead a team, coordinate with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, supervise staff, prepare plans and budgets, and engage with the community to ensure quality outcomes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or closely related field.
• Minimum eight years of progressively responsible engineering experience with at least five years in supervisory/management roles.
• Current North Carolina Professional Engineer license or ability to obtain within six months.

Responsibilities

• Directs the Town's Engineering Department and serves as Town Engineer.
• Oversees engineering operations, capital project delivery, development engineering, and standards.
• Leads staff development, performance coaching, and evaluation.
• Represents the department to Town Manager, Board, and other departments.
• Develops long-range engineering strategies and evaluates infrastructure priorities.
• Oversees design, planning, review of plans, budgets, and consultant contracts.
• Collaborates with NC Department of Transportation and manages grants.
