Job summary

The New York City Department of Correction seeks a Speechwriter and Executive Communications Manager to craft remarks, briefing materials and quotes for the Commissioner and agency leadership. Qualifications

• A baccalaureate degree and four years of progressively responsible experience in a large governmental agency or equivalent.
• One year of experience at the administrative or managerial level is required.
• Graduate education or a license may substitute for up to three years of experience.
• Graduate education beyond the bachelor’s degree may substitute for up to three years of experience.
• A New York State Registration as an LCSW or LMSW may substitute for three years of experience.
• Must be available to work after hours, weekends, and during emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Draft speeches, remarks, talking points, briefing packages, scripts and other materials for the Commissioner and senior leaders.
• Coordinate scheduling and details of agency participation in events.
• Staff and support agency leaders at events.
• Collaborate with subject matter experts to ensure information is accurate and represents the Department’s voice.
• Provide support to colleagues including the press office and internal communications teams.
