Job summary

Port of San Francisco is seeking an Assistant Port Director/Chief Operating Officer to provide daytime management and strategic oversight of the Port’s operating divisions. This executive role reports to the Executive Director and serves as second-in-command, shaping enterprise strategy and asset stewardship across maritime, real estate, and development portfolios.

You will guide senior teams, collaborate with tenants and partners, and drive public-interest outcomes while advancing resilience

Qualifications

• The ideal candidate will have six years of increasingly responsible management experience in a municipality.
• At least three years as a Division Head or equivalent level.
• Possession of a valid California driver’s license; insurability under port insurance.
• Experience leading complex organizations with multiple operating functions.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the Executive Director's principal advisor on business strategy, enterprise asset management, waterfront development, maritime commerce, and organizational performance.
• Provide executive leadership and oversight of the Port’s operating divisions and ensure alignment of priorities and resources.
• Lead enterprise-wide initiatives to maximize value of real estate and maritime assets while advancing strategic goals.
• Represent the Port before the Port Commission, elected officials, agencies, and community stakeholders.
• Foster collaboration across Port divisions to improve processes, efficiency, and accountability.
• Promote a culture of innovation, accountability, collaboration, equity, and continuous improvement.
