Job summary

Maricopa County is seeking a Chief Nursing Officer to provide executive leadership for nursing and clinical services across the Correctional Health Services system. This role reports to the CHS Director and leads a team of nursing leaders in a complex, 24/7 environment, balancing clinical excellence with operational and regulatory responsibilities.

Qualifications

• Seven years of nursing experience in a hospital, ambulatory, correctional, behavioral health, or similarly complex healthcare environment.
• Two years of nursing leadership experience supervising nurses and other healthcare professionals.
• Valid, unrestricted RN license issued by the Arizona Board or multistate license per NLC.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Master's degree may substitute for up to two years of general nursing experience.

Responsibilities

• Provides executive leadership, strategic direction, and oversight for nursing and designated clinical support services across all CHS facilities and 24/7 operations.
• Serves as the senior nursing executive and principal nursing advisor to the CHS Director and is a member of the CHS Senior Executive Team.
• Leads Nursing Managers and other nursing leaders; sets expectations, accountability, and performance standards; fosters leadership development.
• Establishes and evaluates standards of nursing practice to ensure safe, evidence-based patient care.
• Maintains visibility across facilities to understand frontline operations and engage staff.
• Collaborates with CHS Administration, Controller, and other leaders to promote integrated care and optimize outcomes.
