Job summary

Great American Insurance Group's Executive Liability Division is seeking an Associate Claims Attorney, Claims Attorney, or Senior Claims Attorney in Schaumburg, IL or Chicago, IL, with a hybrid schedule (3 days in-office, 2 days remote).

The successful candidate will manage a claim-file inventory, perform detailed analyses, evaluate coverage and liability, and coordinate with defense counsel to advance resolutions.

Qualifications

• JD (Juris Doctorate) and current attorney license required.
• Generally, a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
• Experience in the areas of litigation, insurance coverage, employment practices, or claims adjusting would be a plus.
• Detail oriented, organized and possess strong analytical skills.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed analysis of each claim.
• Evaluates coverage and liability, issues written coverage opinions and monitors all aspects of the file while working toward resolution of the claim; including hiring, monitoring and paying defense counsel.
• Develops and implements claim litigation and resolution strategies.
• Provides information to underwriters and reinsurers on specific claims or insureds and legal trends and issues which affect the business.
• Secures and analyzes necessary information (i.e., reports, policies, appraisals, releases, statements, records, or other documents) in the investigation of claims.
• Attends arbitrations or mediations as necessary.
• May affect settlements / reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations where applicable.
• Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
• Ensures that claims handling is conducted in compliance with applicable statutes, regulations, and other legal requirements, and that all applicable company procedures and policies are followed.
• May provide technical advice to other functional areas.
• Other duties as assigned.
