Job summary

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California seeks an Assistant General Manager of Engineering and Technical Resources to provide executive leadership across Water Resource Management, Engineering, Sustainability, Resilience and Innovation, and Bay‑Delta Initiatives.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will guide long‑range planning, capital program oversight, and infrastructure investments while ensuring reliability for 19 million people.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in public sector, water industry, public utility or related field, including six years supervising professional/technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Executive Leadership & Strategic Integration: Establish priorities across interconnected functions and advise the General Manager and executive team on enterprise‑wide decisions.
• Organizational & People Leadership: Lead senior managers, establish accountability, develop talent, and prepare the organization for evolving needs and succession.
• Water Resources Strategy & Reliability: Lead long‑term water resource planning and strategies addressing changing hydrologic, regulatory, environmental, and operational conditions.
• Engineering & Infrastructure: Provide strategic oversight of Metropolitan’s Capital Improvement Program and ensure infrastructure investments support reliability, asset management, and organizational priorities.
• Sustainability, Resilience & Climate Adaptation: Integrate sustainability, resilience, and climate adaptation into water resources, infrastructure, and technical planning.
• Bay‑Delta Initiatives: Oversee initiatives affecting the reliability and sustainability of State Water Project supplies.
• Financial & Program Stewardship: Oversee operating and capital budgets while ensuring regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and effective program execution.
• External Representation & Partnerships: Represent Metropolitan with member agencies, regulators, industry organizations, elected officials, and other stakeholders.
