Job summary

Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is seeking an Assistant General Manager of Engineering and Technical Resources to lead critical functions across Water Resource Management, Engineering, Sustainability, and Bay-Delta Initiatives. This executive role shapes regional water reliability for millions and directs a broad capital program.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive public utility leadership, strategic vision, and the ability to supervise senior engineers and managers,

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field; advanced degree may substitute for two years of experience.
• At least 10 years in public sector, water industry, public utility, or related field.
• Six years of managing and supervising professional and technical staff.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership across Water Resource Management, Engineering, Sustainability, and Bay-Delta Initiatives.
• Lead senior managers, establish accountability, develop talent, and prepare for evolving needs.
• Lead long-term water resource planning and strategies addressing hydrologic, regulatory, and operational changes.
• Provide strategic oversight of Capital Improvement Program and infrastructure investments.
• Integrate sustainability, resilience, and climate adaptation into planning.
• Oversee Bay-Delta Initiatives affecting State Water Project reliability.
• Oversee operating and capital budgets, ensure regulatory compliance and program execution.
• Represent Metropolitan with member agencies, regulators, and stakeholders.
