Job summary

Bexar County Emergency Services District no. 4 seeks an Assistant Fire Chief to oversee safe and efficient fire operations, budget, purchasing, grant management, and policy development. This role reports to the Fire Chief and may assume full command in their absence, operating under NFPA standards and local regulations.

The candidate should bring extensive firefighting and EMS knowledge, strong leadership, and experience in budgeting and strategic planning to advance Department goals.

Qualifications

• Minimum eight years of increasingly responsible fire suppression experience including three years serving as a rank of Captain or above.
• Associate's degree or higher preferred.
• Valid Texas Driver's License Class B Exempt and relevant certifications are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Keep Fire Chief fully informed of essential actions and events.
• Confer with Fire Chief in development and administration of policies and procedures.
• Analyze situations and implement effective courses of action.
• Interpret and explain department policies and regulations.
• Develop and implement goals, objectives, policies, and priorities for the Department.
• Review and participate in the preparation of the Department’s budget.
• Plan for department short- and long-term needs and prepare reports.
