Job summary

Vista Higher Learning seeks an Executive Editor for K12 World Language to lead editorial strategies and digital content development in Boston. This hybrid role requires deep expertise in K-12 education and a passion for innovative learning experiences.

The ideal candidate will have over 8 years of editorial leadership experience and a commitment to quality standards in educational publishing. A Bachelor's degree is required, ideally complemented by a Master's degree. The salary range is $100,000 - $120,000 annually plus incentives.

Executive Editor – K12 World Language

WHAT IS THE ROLE ABOUT?

As the World Language Executive Editor, you will be a visionary leader who defines and drives the editorial and content strategy for key academic disciplines and learner levels within the company’s educational publishing portfolio. You will lead a cross-functional team of editors, content strategists, and freelance creators to deliver high-quality, learner-centered content that meets rigorous pedagogical and market standards across digital platforms. Working in close partnership with senior stakeholders in product, UX/UI design, marketing, and engineering, your work aims to ensure content experiences are aligned with user needs, platform capabilities, and strategic business goals.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL:
  • Architect and lead a comprehensive editorial and content development that aligns with business goals, pedagogical imperatives, and the demands of a digitally connected educational landscape.
  • Serve as the strategic voice of editorial at the executive level, ensuring alignment with enterprise-wide digital transformation goals and the company’s long-term vision for educational impact.
  • Provide visionary leadership and mentorship by guiding managing editors, development teams, and cross‑functional content staff, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and digital‑first thinking.
  • Drive innovation in instructional content through integrating multimodal learning experiences, inclusive design principles, and emerging trends in educational technology and digital pedagogy.
  • Lead exploration and pilot initiatives around emerging educational technologies, new content delivery models, and cutting‑edge pedagogical approaches to keep the company at the forefront of the education sector.
  • Oversee the development and launch of large‑scale educational products; manage the creation of multi‑format educational products with a focus on standards alignment, learner engagement, and platform‑specific optimization.
  • Act as a spokesperson and thought leader for the company at industry conferences, educational forums, and media engagements, elevating the brand’s profile and influencing trends in educational publishing.
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with key stakeholders such as educational institutions, government bodies, content partners, and technology vendors to expand the company’s reach and collaborative opportunities.
  • Ensure the highest levels of editorial integrity and quality across all platforms and delivery channels.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders across functions to embed editorial initiatives into integrated, data‑informed product strategies.
  • Monitor and analyze market dynamics and competitive intelligence; shape strategic content initiatives and long‑term planning based on market signals and shifts in digital education policy.
  • Champion the continuous optimization of editorial workflows and tools through improved workflows and content management systems.
  • Manage editorial operating models; oversee budget, resource allocation, vendor partnerships, and freelance ecosystems to support scalability and operational sustainability.
YOU MUST HAVE (MINIMUM REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)
  • Bachelor’s degree minimum.
Editorial Leadership
  • 8+ years of people management experience leading, mentoring, and developing editorial teams and cross‑functional collaborators while fostering innovation, excellence, and digital‑first editorial thinking.
  • Proven editorial leader able to shape content strategy, serve as the senior editorial voice, and align initiatives with organizational goals, audience needs, brand standards, and long‑term educational impact.
  • Expert‑level knowledge of relevant academic standards, learner needs, and educational market expectations, with a strong commitment to editorial quality and consistency across platforms.
  • Track record of advancing instructional content through multimodal learning, inclusive design, educational technology trends, and digital transformation initiatives that support diverse learners.
Education Sector and Product Knowledge
  • 13+ years of experience in educational publishing or curriculum development, with majority spent in the relevant curriculum area and learning stage.
  • Subject matter expert in relevant K‑12 World Language curriculum area and intended learners.
  • Expert level knowledge of relevant educational market and landscape, familiarity with state and national standards, and a keen awareness of the distinct needs and challenges of the market.
Additional Skills
  • Expertise with CMS and digital publishing platforms or proprietary educational publishing systems.
  • Strong knowledge of digital publishing standards and formats and interactive content platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, Smartsheet, SharePoint, and related productivity and collaboration tools.
  • Strong proficiency with project management and workflow.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills to set direction, anticipate market shifts, risks, and opportunities.
  • Excellent analytical skills using data and sound judgment to assess priorities, evaluate risk, and support strategic decisions.
  • Exceptional communication skills to clearly and effectively build trust, align stakeholders, and keep work moving forward.
IDEAL IF YOU HAVE (PREFERRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE)
  • Teaching experience and international experience are a strong plus.
  • Native or near‑native proficiency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written strongly preferred.
  • Experience with VHL products is strongly preferred.
  • Master’s degree and certifications preferred.
LOCATION: Hybrid – Boston

Candidate must reside within the United States, within a reasonable distance to our Boston, MA office, and work the required hybrid remote/in‑office schedule (Tuesday and Thursday minimum in office). Relocation is not available for this position.

Salary Range

$100,000 – $120,000 annual.

This position is salaried and is eligible for an annual incentive based on employee and organizational performance.
