The role requires an experienced editor who can motivate reporters to break enterprise stories and deliver explanatory, analytical, and investigative coverage across formats.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience as an editor.
• 5+ years in a significant leadership or managerial role within a major media organization.
• Experience assigning stories and directing coverage.
• Track record of producing varied storyforms.
• Strong news judgment.
• Demonstrated exceptional editing skills, with the ability to sharpen complex critiques, elevate prose, and guide writers toward their best work under tight deadlines.
• Experience successfully navigating complex, matrixed organizational structures.
• Demonstrated leadership experience

Responsibilities

• Lead the Business report of The New York Times, including driving competitive news coverage, generating scoops and ambitious enterprise, incorporating visual and other forms into the report, and setting desk goals and overseeing performance.
• Develop and uphold a strong and cohesive workplace culture
• Collaborate with colleagues on desks across the newsroom
• Demonstrate support and understanding of our value of journalistic independence and a strong commitment to our mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world
