  • Mastery of multiple storytelling formats: text, video, interactive graphics.
  • Exceptional editorial judgment under tight deadlines.
  • History of leading within intricate organizational environments.
  • Strong news judgment and commitment to independent journalism.
  • Track record of decisions upholding integrity and reputation.
  • Capacity to manage multiple high-priority assignments without compromising quality.
  • Understanding of ethical considerations in business/financial reporting.

Responsibilities

  • Define the strategic direction of the business desk with clear goals and metrics.
  • Drive original reporting shaping conversations on business and economy.
  • Collaborate with video, photography, and design for cross-format coverage.
  • Mentor junior staff through coaching and feedback.
  • Set desk-level goals and KPIs; track reader engagement and depth of coverage.
  • Allocate reporters across beats to cover underexplored areas.
  • Represent the desk in cross-department meetings with leadership, product, and audience teams.
  • Maintain rigorous editorial standards during deadlines; ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Evaluate and adopt new storytelling technologies to enhance coverage.
