Job summary

The AAFP Foundation, the 501(c)(3) philanthropic arm of the American Academy of Family Physicians, seeks an Executive Director & Vice President Development to lead strategy, fundraising and stewardship.

This leader sets the direction for private, family and corporate foundation engagement, secures grants, oversees programs, and serves on the Foundation and Board committees. The role reports to the EVP/CEO and manages a nine-member team in the Kansas City metro area.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in nonprofit management or related field.
• 5–10 years of executive leadership experience in nonprofit/healthcare or mission-driven org.
• Proven success in fundraising, donor development, grant acquisition.
• Experience with governing boards and volunteer leadership.
• Strong financial management, strategic planning and organizational leadership.
• Exceptional communication and executive presence.
• Commitment to ethical fundraising.

Responsibilities

• Provide executive leadership and day-to-day management of the AAFP Foundation.
• Set and execute the Foundation's strategic direction and fundraising plan.
• Engage private, family, and corporate foundations to secure grant funding.
• Oversee humanitarian, educational and scientific programs.
• Lead relationships with Foundation's board and oversee staff.
