Overview

Tanaq Environmental, LLC. (TEL) delivers environmental engineering, investigation, consulting, and remediation services to local, state, and federal agencies in the areas of hazardous & toxic waste restoration and military munitions site management. Tanaq is a subsidiary of the St. George Tanaq Corporation, an Alaskan Native Corporation (ANC) committed to serving Federal customers while also giving back to the Alaskan native community and shareholders.

About the Role

The Executive Director, Tanaq Environmental (General Manager) is the key management leader of the Environmental Business Unit (BU) and is responsible for overseeing program administration and the BU’s strategic plan. The ideal candidate will have experience building market positions in agencies like the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, The Environmental Protection Agency, The Department of the Navy, and The Department of Defense. This seasoned and innovative leader will have deep knowledge of the federal environmental consulting and remediation landscape, a strong operational skillset, excellent financial acumen and significant management experience.

This is a hybrid remote position from any U.S. location, preferably in the metropolitan Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia (DMV) area. Some travel (25% of time) will be required, mainly to attend conferences and meet clients.

Responsibilities

  • Leadership: Provides leadership for the organization’s continued growth, success, and sustainability. Will share and align with others the company’s vision, mission, values, and organizational culture. Develops innovative ideas and initiatives for expansion in line with the strategic plan.
  • Strategic Growth Plan: Shapes the business unit’s future strategic direction and transformation by identifying new business markets, agencies, teaming opportunities, and partnerships. Develops and sustains a robust pipeline of qualified opportunities.
  • Build Market Position: Overall responsibility for generating measurable returns to grow the company. Identify, develop, define, and strengthen key business relationships. Achieves acquisition and sales goals through winning new business, contract recompetes, teaming, and organic program growth.
  • Operations Execution: Responsible for daily operations of the business unit. Effectively manage the planning, budgeting, program execution, quality assurance, employee development and recruitment, and other fiscal, administrative, and infrastructure tasks. Strong understanding of the financial execution of the business. Ensures work is completed in accordance with applicable safety and quality standards and develops and implements corrective actions when necessary
  • Customer Management: Builds relationships through effective communications. Consults potential customers by demonstrating solutions, capabilities, and developing strategies for early-stage opportunities. Leads technical and program management teams to develop responses for proposals, white papers, presentations, briefings, and other types of events.
Requirements

Required Experience and Skills

  • Previous experience with a Small Business Administration (SBA) 8(a) company, preferably an Alaska Native Corporation (ANC), Native Hawaiian Organization (NHO) or Indian Tribe.
  • 7+ years of related work experience in engineering/environmental consulting services with experience in program/project management, business development, and strategic planning focused on the government market sector is preferred.
  • 10+ years with profit & loss responsibility and program management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience providing direction for operations and ensuring compliance with all management policies, plans, and procedures.
  • 5+ years of experience preparing proposals, work plans, cost estimates for business plans for significant client growth and overseeing the successful implementation of such plans is required.
  • Excellent business financial background and experience. Understanding how to optimize financial outcomes is essential.
  • Ability to lead team member engagement and a desire to seek out innovative ways to establish and maintain outstanding relationships with a broad array of team members, customers, and partners.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Able to obtain government clearance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employ-er sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Education and Training

  • Bachelor of science degree, preferably in any of the multi-disciplined environmental sciences, engineering, or geologic sciences, plus a minimum of 15 years of experience in government contracting or equivalent is required; Master’s degree in any of the applicable multi-disciplined sciences or MBA is preferred.
  • Registration or certification is highly desirable (PE, PG, PMP, etc.).

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. May need to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.

Pay Range

The projected annual salary range for this position is $180,000-$210,000 USD. Please note that the salary information listed is a good faith estimate for this position and a general guideline only. Multiple factors are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, the candidate’s relevant work experience, skills, education, certifications, and competencies that align with the specified role, geographic location, as well as business considerations and contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
