Job Overview

Road to Recovery is an emerging conservation initiative dedicated to reversing the decline of North America's bird populations. Through innovative partnerships, strategic conservation efforts, and community engagement, we aim to identify and address the causes of bird declines and ensure a thriving future for avian species across the continent.

The Executive Director will serve as the chief visionary and strategic leader of the Road to Recovery project. The ideal candidate will inspire, mobilize, and unify diverse stakeholders to address the urgent threats facing North America's bird populations. With a strong emphasis on leadership, fundraising, and conservation strategy, this role requires a dynamic individual capable of translating passion into tangible conservation outcomes.

Work Interactions

Reporting to the Director of the Earth Commons, this position will work with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to lead fundraising and conservation efforts for the Road to Recovery Project.

Requirements and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, and 9 -11 years of experience (or equivalent relevant work experience) required working with a diverse range of stakeholders in the environmental or non-profit area, ideally in the conservation sector. A Master's Degree or Project Management Professional (PMP) credential is typically preferred.

The preferred candidate will possess the following:
  • Proven experience in senior leadership roles within the conservation, biological environmental, or non-profit sectors.
  • Exceptional ability to unite and mobilize diverse groups around a common cause.
  • Demonstrated success in fundraising, including securing major grants and cultivating donor relationships.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of North American conservation challenges and species recovery strategies.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire trust and collaboration.
  • Strong strategic thinking and program development capabilities.
  • Passionate advocate for the protection of birds and their habitats.
  • Proven track record of developing innovative conservation solutions
  • A minimum of 8 years' experience working with government agencies

Pay Range:

The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$80,429.00 - $157,238.93

Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
