Overview

The Washington Library Association (WLA) is inviting applications for the position of Executive Director. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a chapter of the American Library Association, WLA serves over 1,200 individuals and 40 institutions, advocating for enhanced library services throughout Washington State.

Job Scope

The Executive Director will be an integral member of a collaborative team, responsible for steering the daily operations of WLA while executing the policies and initiatives set forth by the WLA Board of Directors. Key responsibilities include :

  • Organizational governance
  • Member engagement and management
  • Financial oversight and sustainability
  • Fundraising and grant-seeking efforts
  • Advocacy on behalf of libraries
  • Supervising staff

This role is primarily designed for remote work, though attendance at periodic on-site meetings and events is expected.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher, or relevant experience
  • Current or imminent residency in Washington State
  • Background in libraries or library associations
  • Experience in grant writing and / or administration
  • Minimum of 3 years in a direct administrative or leadership role
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficiency in Google applications (Sheets, Forms, Calendar)
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service
  • Genuine appreciation for libraries
  • Strong attention to detail
  • A healthy sense of humor
Preferred Qualifications
  • Familiarity with association management software
  • Experience with grant and / or fundraising software
Compensation and Benefits
  • Hourly rate of $26-$30, depending on experience
