Job Description
Position REQUIRES Clinical Drug Development experience with an emphasis in Ophthalmology indications. Candidates who also have CRO + Pharma/Biotech experience are preferred.
The Molecule Lead, Client Delivery Unit, provides strategic direction, leadership, and management, responsible for the delivery and growth of a book of work (e.g., molecule/asset/therapeutic area) within the Client Sourcing Model, from early phase through to commercialization and across the clinical drug development spectrum. Has a critical focus on maximising revenue, minimising operating margins, whilst ensuring quality and exceeding client satisfaction by on-time delivery and execution. Partners with colleagues within Project Delivery, FSP, Business Development at the enterprise level, and alliance management, and with Executive leadership to build and deliver studies/programs within the Client Delivery Unit.
Potential for role expansion as the book of work grows with increasing responsibility and span of control. This role will be 50% billable and is required to be based in NA or W Europe, aligned with key client leadership.
Essential Functions:
- Engage with and develop effective working relationships with client leadership counterparts.
- Periodic face-to-face meetings at applicable client business units, cadence driven by portfolio activity.
- Drive delivery through innovation with out-of-the-box thinking and entrepreneurial leadership.
- Leverage clinical drug development expertise and participate in scientific and operational engagements with clients' leadership teams to contribute to product/asset development strategy & study execution from early phase through to commercialization.
- Provide thought leadership to operating model optimization, as applicable.
- Translate therapeutic strategy expertise into operational strategy with empowerment to make decisions.
- Leverage pipeline information & deploy strategic vision to drive proactive portfolio delivery acceleration, reducing white space.
- Maintain optimal relationships with key partners and stakeholders.
- Collaborate on the continuous development/improvement of business processes to support delivery within the Client Delivery Unit.
- Ensure optimal performance & delivery within the book of work, supporting achievement of milestones & deliverables, ensuring implementation/management in line with operating model, driving consistency, and providing proactive feedback on risks/issues, financials, metrics.
- Resolve issues not addressable by the study team, leveraging governance structures and escalation pathways, aiming for resolution at the lowest functional level.
- Participate in governance structures appropriate for the partnership level.
- Perform Oversight Director role within the partnership.
- Drive internal resourcing and partner with functional leadership to ensure appropriate resource availability supporting a mixed resourcing model.
- Act as key escalation point of contact for clients, guiding the team to identify and solve problems and proposing strategies for prevention or correction.
- Discuss project risks and potential contingencies impacting time/quality/cost with Senior Management via escalation pathways.
- Lead, develop, and coach the project team in cooperation with leadership as required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proven track record of project delivery in large accounts and partnerships.
- Clinical drug development experience.
- Therapeutic experience.
- Leadership ability to support a business through rapid growth and change.
- Strategic vision & leadership with ability to weigh short and long-term decisions.
- Strong financial acumen, knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, and resource management.
- Executive presence with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, relationship builder capable of working effectively in matrix organizations.
- Effective organizational and negotiation skills, problem-solving ability, and leadership agility in a dynamic environment.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent healthcare training or experience providing required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- 15+ years of clinical trials experience with successful development/operationalization of strategic drug development plans in one or more therapeutic areas, including Ophthalmology, with at least 4 years in clinical program leadership.
- Proven experience in developing and managing budgets and resources of a business segment.
- Or equivalent education and experience providing the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
