Job summary

Qualifications

• Ph.D. in marine science or related discipline.
• Experience in research and education institutions (post‑doc or teaching).
• Track record of successfully funded grant proposals.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain externally funded research program.
• Publications in peer‑reviewed journals.
• Familiarity with current marine and environmental science research.
• Knowledge of tropical marine coastal systems.
• Experience managing research budgets.
• Experience managing research faculty and staff.

Responsibilities

• Administer CMES department activities including research, infrastructure, and outreach programs.
• Supervise ~40 CMES staff and faculty; oversee grant management for research and infrastructure.
• Coordinate with UVI departments and external partners to build capacity for competitive research and externally funded grants.
• Oversee major construction projects related to CMES infrastructure improvements.
• Serve on advisory councils, implement outreach activities, and present research results.
• Attract donations to CMES and MMES programs and seek sustainable funding sources.
• Maintain an internationally competitive marine science research program and develop graduate education.
