Job summary

Illinois State Historical Society (ISHS) seeks an executive director to advance its mission, oversee operations in Springfield, and lead fundraising and program development. The role reports to the president and board, supervises staff, and stewards the organizational budget and growth efforts.

The executive director will coordinate programs, communications, and donor relations while representing ISHS to members and public stakeholders. A master’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Requires a master’s degree in communications, history or humanities or seven years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience in fundraising or leading fundraising efforts is required.
  • Knowledge of Illinois history and government is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, implement, and oversee annual and long-term objectives.
  • Lead fundraising efforts and develop strategies with the board.
  • Supervise staff and manage the ISHS budget and finances.
  • Serve as primary spokesperson and manage communications and promotions.
  • Coordinate with committees, volunteers, and external partners.
