Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Director of Facilities & Plant Operations to provide strategic leadership across facilities, engineering, maintenance, and plant operations. You will oversee budgets, regulatory readiness, and major construction projects to support patient care and operational excellence.

The role requires extensive healthcare facilities knowledge, strong leadership, and experience with CMMS/BAS/EMS systems, along with formal degrees and professional certifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field is required.
• Master’s degree preferred.
• CHFM certification preferred.
• PE/CPE/FASHE certifications preferred.
• 7–10 years of progressive facilities/engineering/plant operations experience in healthcare.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience overseeing facilities teams.
• Experience managing regulatory compliance programs and major construction projects.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership for facilities, engineering, maintenance, and plant operations services.
• Oversee facilities staff, supervisors, contractors, and vendors.
• Develop and administer operating and capital budgets and monitor financial performance.
• Direct preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs for building systems.
• Lead capital planning, infrastructure renewal, and construction projects from planning to completion.
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and accreditation requirements.
• Oversee Environment of Care, Life Safety, utility management, and emergency preparedness programs.
• Provide leadership for utility systems including HVAC, electrical distribution, emergency power, medical gas, plumbing, and building automation.
• Drive energy management, sustainability, and operational efficiency initiatives.
• Establish departmental goals, policies, and continuous improvement programs.
• Collaborate with leadership on growth, master planning, and priorities.
• Serve as SME on facilities infrastructure and regulatory readiness.
