Job summary

Retreat Farm, Ltd. in Brattleboro, Vermont, seeks an experienced Executive Director to lead Vermont’s premier community-centered farm and health initiative.

The role is to steward the historic 640 acres, cultivate partnerships, and advance fundraising to sustain programs and mission. Reporting to the Board, the ED will oversee a staff of about 30, drive the 10-year vision, and strengthen community health through land, trails, markets, and educational programs, while expanding collaborations with

Qualifications

• 10+ years as a senior leader of a complex organization.
• Extensive fundraising and philanthropic relationship building.
• Interest in rural economic development, local food systems, climate & environment, outdoor recreation, conservation & civic engagement.
• Experience managing a budget and payroll responsibility.
• Experience working with a Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

• Lead fundraising and cultivate major gifts; grow annual giving and membership.
• Oversee financial strength and earned revenue from Market, events, and other lines.
• Develop and implement a 10-year strategic plan with the Board and staff.
• Act as public face and convener; build partnerships with local/state institutions.
• Recruit and structure tenant/partner agreements to activate facilities.
• Support governance and board development with timely reporting.
• Lead a team of ~30 in collaboration with COO to foster a productive culture.
• Steward land, buildings, trails and waters with welcoming public access.
