Executive Director, Business Development (New England Territory)

Primary Purpose

The Executive Director of Business Development is responsible for identifying and pursuing new business opportunities, expanding relationships with existing clients, and driving revenue growth. This role requires strategic oversight of the business development function, ensuring alignment with corporate goals. The role involves selling Emmes' technology-enabled services to biopharmaceutical, government, non-profit, and academic institutions as part of a fast-growing team focused on R&D excellence in the life sciences industry.

Responsibilities
  1. Drive Business Growth: Sell the company's capabilities, differentiate Emmes from competitors, and follow up on leads to secure new opportunities.
  2. Achieve Sales Targets: Meet or exceed annual sales goals for assigned territories and accounts.
  3. Strategic Client Engagement: Develop and execute client call cycles and strategic account plans to build long-term partnerships, leveraging a network of biotech, pharmaceutical, and government contacts.
  4. Client Relationship Management: Cultivate relationships with senior stakeholders to expand business opportunities.
  5. Sales Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular updates on sales activities, market trends, and competitive intelligence to senior management.
  6. Cross-functional Collaboration: Work closely with operations to understand capabilities, capacity, and timelines, ensuring alignment across departments for optimal client delivery.
  7. Win Strategy Development: Identify and develop tailored strategies to secure opportunities and enhance client partnerships.
  8. Customer Expectation Management: Set and manage customer expectations, ensuring high satisfaction through a consultative approach.
  9. Bid and Client Meetings: Organize and lead client visits, presentations, and bid defenses.
  10. CRM and Pipeline Management: Use CRM tools to document interactions and manage a pipeline of opportunities.
  11. Additional Responsibilities: Perform other duties to support business development goals.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in scientific or business field.
  • 10+ years of experience providing CRO services to biotech, pharma, or government markets, including account management and interaction with decision-makers.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% within the territory.
  • Understanding of CRO services and eClinical solutions (RTSM, EDC, eCOA).
  • Experience with sales cycles and strategies in services and technology sectors.
  • Proven ability to grow and retain clients and manage challenging situations.
  • Strong relationships with internal teams and external clients.
  • Effective presentation and interpersonal skills, proficient in MS Office.
