Job summary

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) seeks an Executive Director of Artificial Intelligence to lead university-wide AI strategy and governance across Academic Affairs. You will build an Office of AI, align initiatives with equity and access, and guide campuses, faculty, and staff in responsible AI adoption.

Qualifications

• Master's degree in AI, Computer Science, Data Science, Educational Technology, or a related field.
• At least 7 years of progressively responsible experience in AI strategy, innovation, or digital transformation, with 3 years in a senior leadership role in higher education, government, or a comparable mission-driven organization.
• Demonstrated expertise in AI technologies and their ethical, regulatory, and social implications.
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive organizational change in complex environments.
• Exceptional communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with experience presenting to executive leadership or boards.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility in technology adoption and implementation.

Responsibilities

• Execute a comprehensive university-wide AI strategy aligned with CUNY's mission, academic priorities, and access goals.
• Establish and lead an Office of Artificial Intelligence within OAA to coordinate initiatives and serve as a center of excellence.
• Develop governance frameworks, policies, and best practices for ethical AI use in education and administration.
• Partner with campuses and departments to integrate AI into curricula, pedagogy, and experiential learning.
• Coordinate workshops, trainings, and events to support AI staff and leaders.
• Lead AI literacy initiatives for students, faculty, and staff.
• Identify funding opportunities and foster interdisciplinary collaboration using AI.
